The BTCC event over the Easter weekend saw the Ginetta GT4 Supercup 2017 at Donington Park, with the cars on circuit over the Saturday and Sunday of the weekend. George Gamble had set the pole time, ahead of Ben Green. Carl Boardley was quickly in the lead, though, of the first race, with Green also getting by Gamble on the first lap. Green and Gamble touched, with Green getting back on track but Gamble finishing the race in the gravel. Callum Pointon moved through the field, and was challenging Boardley for the lead, but it was Carl Boardley who crossed the line first. However, a time penalty was given to Boardley for his defence against Pointon, giving Pointon the win and Tom Roche to second in his first race in the series, and Charlie Ladell to third.
Special mention goes to Team Hard’s Dan Kirby who managed to keep going after the door fell off his car mid way through the race. There was a great cheer when his door made its way, separate to the car, back to the pits after the race.
Pointon got off to a good start from pole in race two, but the safety car was soon deployed when Jack Minshaw came to a halt on track. Roche passed Pointon for the race lead, then Pointon spun, leaving Roche to take the chequered flag, giving him a second and a first in his opening two races in the series. Ben Green and Declan Jones made up the rest of the podium.
In race three, Reece Somerfield was on pole, but was quickly passed by Tom Hibbert, who was in turn passed by Pointon for the race lead. Ben Green then passed Pointon, and took the win, with a second for Pointon and a third for Declan Jones.
The cars have their next outing at Oulton Park, with Callum Pointon going in to that round leading the championship.
