In mid March, when I got to 100 000 views on Flickr, I ran through my top 20 Flickr pictures, and it is quite interesting to see the movement in the list over the last month. Here are the top 20 as they stand now.
Second place is also still the same, and again, another heptathlete from London 2012, team GB’s Katarina Johnson-Thompson, landing in the sand during the long jump on Super Saturday.
That’s when things start to change. Michael Schumacher is up to third place, with this picture from Valencia 2012.
Jessica Ennis has then moved from third and sixth to fourth and fifth place, also from the London 2012 Olympic heptathlon.
Kimi Raikkonen is up to sixth place.
This picture of my dog Berta always seems to be popular, and I still am not entirely sure why she is wearing a scarf in this particular shot, but it has got her all the way up to number 7.
More Olympics, with British heptathletes Katarina Johnson Thompson and Louise Hazel in ninth place, down one place over the month.
Sergio Perez, the Formula One driver, is down three places from seventh to tenth.
Going the other direction is Perez’s team mate, Jenson Button, who rises three places from fourteenth place up to eleventh.
Fernando Alonso remains in twelfth place in this picture from Valencia last year. I am curious as to why this particular picture of him is popular, as it is not among the better ones.
Former Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton has slipped down from eleventh to thirteenth.
Then, we have some new pictures. Most of those that I have added to Flickr are taken with a digital SLR, and I normally assume that a good, high resolution picture is required to be popular here. I was at Donington Park recently, and took a quick picture of the statue of Ayrton Senna there with my phone, which has proven to be popular enough to already be at number fourteen.
The Temple of Baal in Syria, which has stood for many centuries, has been reportedly damaged in the current conflict there, which is tremendously sad. I took this picture of it a few years ago, and have recently written about Palmyra, as part of a series of posts about travelling across Syria.
The lack of sunshine in the UK over the winter and the early part of spring may help explain why this picture of the sun, taken from a temple near Angkor Wat in Cambodia on New Year’s Eve a couple of years ago, has proven to be so popular here, moving up seven places over the last month.
This picture of Gyorgyi Farkas has slipped down two places to number seventeen.
Similarly, this picture of Katarina Johnson-Thompson of Team GB has fallen five places over the last month to eighteenth.
Proving the popularity of Formula One pictures, the last two in the top twenty are both related to motor racing, firstly that of Sebastian Vettel, the current World Champion, at the British Grand Prix last year, and followed by him and his team mate both at Silverstone, also last year.
Interestingly, this similar picture of the two McLaren drivers from 2012, Button & Hamilton, seems to be much less popular with just 91 views.
It is interesting to see which photos grow and fall in popularity. It does seem that travelling, Formula One, and of course, Berta, are the popular ones at the moment.
