The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the 2015 Belgium Grand Prix

Just like GP2 and GP3, there were two races of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the 2015 Belgium Grand Prix in keeping with the support race schedule for the European Grand Prix circuit. The event was augmented by the inclusion of World Rally Champion Sebastian Loeb – we saw him standing between La Source and Eau Rouge when we first got to the circuit on Friday – and racing driver and US television star Patrick Dempsey. The Porsche Supercup has seen a number of special guest drivers join the grid from race to race, and it does now enjoy plenty of participation with the biggest grid of the weekend.

The Porsches had their practice session on Friday afternoon before qualifying on Saturday afternoon. I watched that session at various points between La Source and the famous Bus Stop at the other end of the main straight, which gives fantastic views of the cars. The qualifying session resulted in pole positions for Michael Ammermüller and Philipp Eng for the two races.

The first race of the weekend for the Porsche drivers was held on Saturday evening, as the last event of the day. Michael Ammermüller led from pole before car problems saw him slow and go into the barriers. There was much relief when he got out of the car. After the safety car that resulted, championship leader Philip Eng took the lead before making a mistake which Sven Müller take the win.

The second race of the weekend was held on Sunday, where championship leader Philip Eng led from pole position and fended off the attempts of Sven Müller to take the lead. Sebastian Loeb suffered car problems at the start of the race, and did not manage to take part in the race.
