The BRSCC FF1600 Formula Ford event on the Ards Peninsula this weekend saw the HRCA Historic Sports Cars Kirkistown Visit 2017, which featured various sports cars from all over Ireland racing, bringing together Sunbeam Tigers, a Jaguar E type, a couple of Crossles, and various other fantastic vehicles at the County Down circuit. I particularly liked the Lotus 47 of Clive Brandon. The racing throughout the weekend was great to watch and included plenty of action, so hopefully developed some new fans over the course of the weekend.
The event was held across Friday afternoon and Saturday, and with the stars of the weekend being the Formula Fords, there were plenty of superb support events including these historic, and also the likes of the BOSS (Big Open Single Seaters) Ireland series, which saw great marques like Lola, Dallara and Mygale back on circuit. There was also action from the superkarts, and plenty of other racing series including the Libre Saloons and the Ford Zetec series.
The geography of the Ards peninsula means that you are never far from the sea, and therefore never that far from a sea breeze, and although there were blue skies for much of the weekend, there was plenty of wind around too. However, that didn’t seem to stop the drivers putting on quite a show for the gathered spectators. You can hear the wind at the finish line on this little video of the race coming to an end just before lunch on Saturday.
Here are some photos from the Historic Sports Cars from the weekend.
