Lance Stroll was born in 1998, and like many racing drivers, started his career in karting at the age of ten. In 2014, at the age of 15, Lance competed in the Italian Formula Four championship, and impressively saw thirteen podium finishes in the eighteen rounds in which he competed. He took the championship with a weekend to spare. He finished the year by competing in the Florida Winter Series, before moving to the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand for 2015. Lance continued his winning way, taking three of the first four races, against an impressive field of drivers from around the world. He again took the title, and graduated to European Formula 3 for 2016.
Lance took plenty more wins in 2016 and took the title. His impressive series of race wins and titles meant that he jumped straight to Formula One, becoming the first Canadian in the series since Jacques Villeneuve when he signed for Williams. It was a tough start to the season with three retirements, but Lance started to show his form after that and managed a very impressive podium finish in Azerbaijan, and finished the season in twelfth place in the World Drivers’ Championship, just behind his hugely experienced team mate Felipe Massa.
It was an impressive enough result to retain his drive for 2018, where he was the experienced driver being partnered with Sergey Sirotkin. The Force India team saw all sorts of financial issues in 2018, and Lance’s father helped to rescue the team which became Racing Point, so it was no surprise when Lance was announced there for the 2019 season.
Here are some of my photos of Lance. If you like these, there is an index of my various galleries of Formula One drivers past and present here.
