Pierre Gasly was born in 1996 in Rouen, and like many racing drivers started his career in karting at the age of ten, where he made a name of himself first in the French and then the European championships. In 2011, Pierre moved to the French F4 championship, where his performance improved through the course of the season, finishing with six podiums in the final six races including four wins. He came third in the championship, and moved to the Formula Renault 2.0 championship for 2012, winning the 2013 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. Pierre came second in the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 championship behind Carlos Sainz Jr, and he also had six races in GP2 that season. 2015 saw a move to GP2 with the DAMS team, a role he combined with being the test driver for the Red Bull Formula One team.
Pierre took the GP2 title in 2016, and in 2017 moved to Super Formula in Japan. He also drove in Formula E in New York, where he took a fourth place in the second race. Toro Rosso called him up for the Malaysian Grand Prix, replacing Daniil Kvyat. Pierre stayed in the team for the Japanese Grand Prix, and planned to race in the last round of the Super Formula series as he was only half a point behind the championship leader meaning that he missed the US Grand Prix, giving Daniil another weekend in the car. However, the arrival of Tyhoon Lan meant that the final weekend was cancelled and Hiroaki Ishiura took the title.
Pierre was back in Toro Rosso for the remainder of the season, and Toro Rosso retained him for 2018. When Daniel Ricciardo unexpectedly announced he was leaving Red Bull for 2019, the team announced that he would be replaced by Pierre.
Here are some of my photos and videos of Pierre Gasly at various events. There is a list of my galleries of Formula One drivers past and present here.
