Carlos Sainz Jr is a Formula One driver from Spain, and is the son of Carlos Sainz, the former World Rally Champion.  Carlos started racing karts, racing in Europe and Asia Pacific, before moving to Formula BMW Europe in 2010 at the of 15.  This is when I first saw him race, as a support feature of the 2010 British Grand Prix.  2011 saw a move to Formula Renault Eurocup, and then in 2012, a move to Formula Three, where Carlos managed to compete in both British Formula Three and the European Formula Three championships. He seems to enjoy competing in multiple series, as 2013 saw him in both GP3 and the Formula Renault 3.5, where he stayed in 2014.  This time, he won seven of the seventeen races, securing first place in the championship for the DAMS team.

Carlos had been a Red Bull driver for some time, and the promotion of Daniil Kvyat from Toro Rosso to Red Bull to replace Sebastian Vettel who went to Ferrari left a space in the junior team, for which there was much competition, but Carlos got the seat, and 2015 saw his debut season as a Formula One driver, alongside fellow rookie Max Verstappen, where both drivers impressed. The team retained the services for Carlos and Max for 2016, although Max swapped places with Daniil Kyvat from the Spanish Grand Prix, with Carlos and Daniil making up the Toro Rosso team for 2017. However, a mid-season change of drivers saw Carlos move to Renault, where he remained for 2018 alongside team mate Nico Hülkenberg.

The 2019 season sees Carlos move to McLaren to partner F1 newcomer Lando Norris
