Arriving at the 2014 German Grand Prix

The 2014 German Grand Prix

I posted some photos on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the 2014 German Grand Prix, and some of the horrific crash that Felipe Massa had on the first lap – and thankfully walked away from – but did not get round yet to putting together a post with more photos of the event.  So, here are a series of collections of photos from each of the Formula One sessions over the weekend.  We missed FP1, so it starts with FP2.

FP2

Free Practice Two on Friday afternoon was rather warm, with plenty of the spectators taking shelter under the covered parts of the grandstands where they could, giving the impression of a very quiet circuit.  Although far from full, it was busier than it looked.  We sat a little further back than our allocated seats for the weekend, keeping under some shelter, but still more or less opposite the pit lane exit, where our carefully chosen seats were.

FP3

The next Formula One session was on Saturday morning, and it was another warm session with plenty of people again trying to find places to watch the race whilst avoiding the sun.

Qualifying

The sun stayed out for qualifying on Saturday afternoon, which saw a very limited role played by Lewis Hamilton, who had issues in the early part of the first stage of qualifying, which resulted in much cheering from the rather partisan crowd.

Race

The race on Sunday was a wonderfully exciting sporting spectacle, with an initially wet day having dried out for the session, with rain starting again almost as soon as it finished.  Massa’s crash on the first lap was just one of many talking points of the race, which saw plenty of overtaking and good racing.

Paddock

There were, of course, a few photos worth sharing from the paddock and pit lane that did not fit in any of the other sections above…
