Clio Cup 2016 at Rockingham

Clio Cup Rockingham Event 2016

The Clio Cup Rockingham Event 2016, as part of the BTCC weekend, saw plenty of action as well as weather conditions that were at best unexpected for a British Summer. Former champion Mike Bushell managed to take both pole positions, although the conditions had changed by the time the first race started on Saturday afternoon with stormy conditions making the skies unseasonably dark and the track very wet. Ant Whorton-Eales drove a fantastic race to take the win from starting tenth of the grid, with Paul Rivett in second and Bushell in third; all the more impressive given just how bad the conditions were on track.

In the second race, Whorton-Eales seemed to be continuing where he left off, powering from sixth to second, before a tangle with Rivett saw him back in fourth place. Then, a fantastic battle with Max Coates saw three overtakes in six corners before Coates eventually managed to take the final podium place with Whorton-Eales in fourth. Bushell took the chequered flag, having led the race throughout, with Paul Rivett again in second place.

That leaves the title still very tight at the top with Whorton-Eales and Bushell taking the competition to Silverstone.
