Jamie Caroline at Thruxton

British F4 Thruxton Weekend 2017

The visit by the BTCC teams to Hampshire over the last few days saw the British F4 Thruxton Weekend 2017 as the single seater series continued to support the British Touring Car Championship.  It was the first race meeting since the horrific crash at Donington Park, and of course Patrik Pasma and Billy Monger were in the minds of everyone there, with every car featuring a supportive sticker, a track walk on Saturday in support of and raising money for Billy, and a collage of messages from various current and previous Formula One drivers with best wishes for Billy.

On the track, Oliver York set the pole time for the first race, but there was to be one star who stood out this weekend.  The first race on Saturday saw Jamie Caroline start from third, and make his way to the lead via a brief off track moment, and take the chequered flag from Alex Quinn and Karl Massaad.  The second race on Sunday was an incredible battle for the lead, and one of the best races I’ve seen in a long time.  Jamie Caroline fought Linus Lundqvist for the lead for most of the race, with Oscar Piastri, Logan Sargeant and Ayrton Simmons having plenty of battles too.  The action was non stop throughout, and it was Caroline, Lundqvist and Piastri who took the podium positions.

All eyes were now on Caroline.  Could he take the third race and become the first driver to win all three races in a single weekend since the current British Formula Four series started?  It may not have been the titanic battle that was the second race, but it was still an exciting watch, as the drivers fought for victory in the afternoon sunshine, but it was Caroline who took his third win of the weekend and the seventh of the season, writing new records for the series.

Another fantastically exciting weekend from British F4, who now head off to Oulton Park for the next rounds in two weeks’ time.  Here are some photos from the British F4 Thruxton Weekend 2017.
