The weekend saw the BTCC teams head north of the border, and the support series there included the British F4 Knockhill Rounds 2018 at the annual Scottish round of the championship. The forecast sounded like a wet weekend was in store, but Saturday turned out to be a bright and sunny day.
Qualifying saw Jonathan Hoggard set the fastest time ahead of Patrik Pasma and Jack Doohan. The second fastest times, also used for qualifying, were similar not just for the first three but for most of the grid.
The first race on Saturday afternoon saw Hoggard lead throughout and take the flag, and he was joined on the podium by Pasma and Doohan.
Saturday may have been bright and sunny, but Sunday was a different matter. The day started wet with intermittent rain, which was certain to make for an interesting race. Ayrton Simmons lead from pole, and kept the lead through a dramatic race that saw the safety car spending plenty of time on track. Hoggard slid into Dennis Hauger, and Paavo Tonteri stopped on track.
Simmons took the win with Sebastian Priaulx in second, and Pasma in third place.
In the final British F4 race of the weekend, Hoggard was back on pole, and made a good start to the race. Pasma was second. Simmons managed to pass title rival Kiern Jewiss on lap six, and held the third place for the rest of the race.
There are two rounds left of the championship, at Silverstone and Brands Hatch, both in September. Jewiss continues to lead the championship from Simmons -albeit with Simmons closing the gap – with team mates Hauger and Doohan in thrd and fourth.
Hauger and Doohan retain the top two places in the rookie cup.
Meanwhile, here are some photos from the action at Knockhill over the weekend.
