British GT Donington 2017

British GT Donington Rounds 2017

The British GT Donington Rounds 2017 were advertised as the “Donington Decider” with the series going down to the last weekend of the year to decide the championships. The series, as normal, had support from the BRDC British Formula Three championship, the Volkswagen Cup, the Mini Challenge, the Ginetta GT5 Championship, the Ginetta Racing Driver Club+ and the Excool OSS championship.

Like the previous round at Brands Hatch in August, the weekend saw a single two hour race on the Sunday for the GT3 and GT4 championships. Qualifying saw the Aston Martin of Mark Farmer and Jon Barnes take pole. However, the race victory went to their team mates, Derek Johnston and Jonny Adam, ahead of Farmer and Barnes. Seb Morris and Rick Parfitt Jr took third place, and that was enough to give them the GT3 series title.

In the GT4 category, Graham Johnson and Mike Robinson’s McLaren was the first finisher, ahead of Will Tregurtha and Stuart Middleton. Jacob Mathiassen and Niall Murray took third place. That gave the championship to Tregurtha and Middleton, and it was a good weekend for the Ginetta Junior class of 2016, with the top two from the championship winning the GT4 title and Lewis Brown who finished third in that series taking the Ginetta GT5 title over the same weekend.

The drivers can have a winter break before they reappear for the 2018 British GT championship. In the meantime here are some photos from the Donington rounds.
