Last weekend saw the climax of the British GT 2015 at Donington Park. It promised to be an exciting weekend with the line up including the excellent BRDC F4 championship and Formula Jedi, as well as several other support races, and it certainly lived up to the hype with great racing action across the various series.
Saturday saw practice and qualifying sessions for the GT cars, with conditions that kept the teams busy with sunshine being replaced by rain, then hail and back to sunshine again all in less than an hour. If that wasn’t enough excitement for the day, red flags also made an appearance, with the very wet track becoming increasingly slippy.
Sunday was an altogether different day, with no shortage of sunshine helping to make the Leicestershire circuit more busy than it had been for the qualifying day. The cars set off for their two hour race, which delivered plenty of excitement. The safety car was required to allow time to clear the track after one of the BMWs crashed out, and soon after, the pit stops started, keeping the teams busy.
The race finished with Matt Bell & Derek Johnston winning the GT3 class, and Daniel Lloyd & Chris Webster winning the GT4 race. Overall, however, it was the Beechdean team that was qualifying, with a double series victory with Jonathan Adam & Andrew Howard taking the GT3 series and Jamie Chadwick & Ross Gunn taking the GT4 series. The podium was looking rather busy with the various drivers on the steps, which meant all the more champagne to spray.
All in all, a great weekend to finish a great season. Here are a few photos from Donington.
