Petra Florescu in British F4 at Rockingham

British Formula Four Rockingham Event 2016

Last weekend saw the British Formula Four drivers race at the Northamptonshire circuit supporting the British Touring Car Championship as the British Formula Four Rockingham Event 2016 got under way. Saturday’s qualifying session saw changeable weather, with a we t but drying track. The fastest times, which set the grid positions for the first race of the weekend, saw James Pull claim a maiden pole from Alex Quinn and Rafael Martins, and the second fastest times, which set the grid for the third race of the weekend, having Billy Monger, Petru Florescu and Max Fewtrell at the front.

The first race on Saturday afternoon saw heavy rain in conditions that looked like a tropical storm rather than a British summer. James Pull made the most of his pole position to take the win, ahead of Alex Quinn and Max Fewtrell.

Sunday saw better conditions as the drivers took to the grid. It was an action packed race from the first corner when Sennan Fielding and Luis Leeds took advantage of Nicolai Kjaergaard and Rafael Martins having a coming together. The safety car made an appearance, but Sennan Fielding kept the lead, and converted it to his fifth win of the season, with Luis Leeds holding on to second from Max Fewtrell.

The final race of the weekend saw Billy Monger in fine form leading the race from pole, and holding off a charging Petru Florescu. However, on the last lap, his car slowed down allowing Max Fewtrell and Sennan Fielding to pass, with Billy having to settle for the third step of the podium.

It was good to see some drivers return to the series, with Patrik Matthiesen, Carrie Schreiner and Alexandra Marinescu all back in the series.
