British F4 Silverstone Rounds 2017

Last weekend saw the British F4 Silverstone Rounds 2017 as part of the BTCC visit to the circuit. As the penultimate weekend of the season, the title race is almost over, and with Jamie Caroline going into the event 74.5 points in the lead with a potential 75 points available, it would just require Caroline to take half a point more than Oscar Piastri to take the championship.

Saturday proved to be difficult conditions with plenty of rain and even thunder and lightning, but that seemed to be perfect conditions for Piastri who topped the times and the second fastest times to take two pole positions for the weekend, to keep his chance of the title alive, albeit still slim.

The first race saw a win for Alex Quinn, with Oliver York in second and Piastri on the third step of the podium, one place ahead of Caroline. That kept the title race alive, with two races remaining for the weekend.

Sunday’s two races saw better but still mixed conditions, and it was Logan Sargeant who took the win ahead of Caroline and Piastri. Finally, the third race saw Piastri take the win from Caroline, and Johnathan Hoggard also on the podium. Overall, Piastri took more points from the weekend that Caroline, which means that the title goes down to the last weekend at Brands Hatch. 67.5 points separate the two title rivals with a potential 75 points available, so Caroline goes into the finale as the firm favourite. Can Piastri manage to jump over this final hurdle?

Meanwhile, here are some photos from Silverstone.
