Here is a gallery of some of my pictures of Mexican Formula One driver Sergio Perez.  Sergio, or Checo Perez, entered Formula One in 2011 driving for Sauber, after an impressive second place in the GP2 series in 2010.  Perez had previously competed in the A1 Grand Prix series during two races in 2006/07 for team Mexico.

 

In 2012, Perez continued with Sauber and impressed with second places in Malaysia and Italy, which were particularly impressive given the competitiveness of the Sauber at the time.  The race in Malaysia was very exciting, with thoughts during the race that Sergio could even win, but it was no to happen.

 

In 2013, Perez moved to McLaren as team mate to Jenson Button, replacing Lewis Hamilton who had moved to Mercedes in a much publicised change of team.  In one of the pictures below, from the 2012 British Grand Prix, I can’t help but wonder if Lewis was giving Sergio some advice about his recently announced move…

 

I bumped into Sergio in the Pit Lane at the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix, where he was popular and doing a good job of meeting and greeting his fans, some of whom had traveled from Mexico for the race, which shows some dedication.

 

Sergio’s time at McLaren was limited, as the team announced that they would not be retaining his services for 2014, although he did manage to stay in the sport, with a transfer to the Force India team, where he was partnered with Nico Hulkenberg.  Sergio and Nico continued as team mates at Force India through 2015 and in to 2016.  2017 saw Sergio staying at the team with Esteban Ocon as his team mate, and the partnership continued into 2018. The team had financial woes during the season and was reborn as Racing Point, partly due to funding from the Stroll family, so in 2019 Sergio will be partnered by Lance Stroll.
