Charles Pic is a French Formula One driver, previously with the Caterham team. His brother, Arthur, is also a racing driver, spending 2013 racing for the DAMS team in Formula Renault 3.5 in the World Series by Renault.
Charles entered Formula Renault back in 2006 at the age of 16, finishing third in the French Formula Campus championship, and the following year, he moved to the Renault 2.0 formulae, with another third place in the Renault Eurocup, and was the best placed rookie. 2008 saw Charles being promoted into the Renault 3.5 championship, where again he managed a very impressive third place finish. 2010 saw him move to GP2, and the Arden team, where he found himself competing against no less than six drivers who are currently his competitors in Formula One. Although there was an impressive start with a win in his first race of the season, the feature race at the Circuit de Catalunya, Charles finished in tenth place in the championship, and in 2011 moved to drive for the Barwa Addax team, alongside team mate Giedo van der Garde. Charles finished fourth in the championship, just three points and one place ahead of his team mate.
2012 saw Charles progress to Formula One, alongside the very experienced Timo Glock in the Marussia team. It was a difficult year in a car that was not the most competitive, and although there were some impressive races from Charles, there were no points. His best result during the season – other than a twelfth place in Brazil – was topping the Free Practice 2 times at the Belgian Grand Prix. This was partly, though, due to limited running during what was a very wet session.
2013 saw a move to Caterham for Charles, and the opportunity to join his former team mate Giedo van der Garde once more. Among the first six races of the year, the best result was a 14th place, which although not a points scoring position, was a better result than all but the last of Charles’ performances for Marussia in 2012. However, it was not a strong enough performance for Charles to retain his seat in 2014. He was announced, however, in February 2014, as a test driver for Lotus.
