Ellen's Stardust Diner

Ellen’s Stardust Diner

I was in New York recently and was introduced to Ellen’s Stardust Diner, an institution located at 1650 Broadway since 1987. The staff at the diner – which serves traditional diner food – are all in New York looking for parts in Broadway shows, and all audition to work at the diner by showing off their singing skills. As you sit and eat your meal, the waiters and waitresses will burst into song, not limiting themselves to the songs of the shows, but all sorts of other classics too. The staff who work there have often gone on to Broadway productions, and in recent years, to American Idol. The diner has found itself on television programmes and in films too, so it may look familiar. If you find yourself near Times Square and looking for somewhere to eat, give it a try. The prices are very reasonable and the entertainment is excellent.

The best way to experience it, of course, is to be there, but in the absence of that, here are the last few seconds of One Day More from Les Miserables from my viewpoint, sitting at my table and enjoying the show. Definitely a recommended way to spend an evening, and I’m told breakfast is excellent too!
