Bruno Senna has one of the most famous surnames in the world of Formula One, and started his racing career by racing go karts on the family farm against his uncle, Ayrton Senna. In 1993, Ayrton said “If you think I’m fast, just wait until you see my nephew Bruno”.
Bruno raced in some of the 2004 Formula BMW UK championship, before moving to the British Formula Three in 2005, where I first saw him race. It was hard not to be drawn to him with the Senna name, and his racing showed that he had a right to be in the formula rather than relying on his family connection. He remained in the series for 2006, winning the first three races of the season, and finishing third in the championship.
2007 saw a move to GP2, where he finished eighth in the championship behind the overall winner, Timo Glock. Bruno remained in GP2 in 2008, where one of the more bizarre and unfortunate incidents of the season saw him colliding with a stray dog at Istanbul. Bruno was unhurt, but the dog died in the accident. Bruno managed a victory in Monaco, and ended up second in the championship.
Bruno raced in the Le Mans series for 2009, before finally arriving in Formula One in 2010 racing for the HRT team, with a best finish of fourteenth. A move to Lotus Renault in 2011 as the test driver appeared to rule Bruno out of the action for the season, however, he was swapped with Nick Heidfeld half way through the season, and drove in the last eight races of the season.
With a 2012 team of Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen being announced at Renault, Bruno moved to Williams to partner Pastor Maldonado, where Malaysia saw his career best finish in Formula One of sixth.
No drive was forthcoming for Bruno in Formula One for 2013, after much debate about potential seats, and in February 2013, it was announced that he would drive in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
Here are some of my pictures from Bruno at various events over the years. I hope that you like them.
