Fiesta Junior Championship 2015 at Brands Hatch

Fiesta Junior Championship 2015 at Brands Hatch

Regular readers will be aware that I have been following several of the BRSCC series this year, so I went along last weekend to the Formula Ford Festival including the last rounds of the Fiesta Junior Championship at Brands Hatch. The series features drivers aged 14-17, and have been impressed at the quality of the racing, the maturity of the drivers and the camaraderie of the series through the year. The championship was certainly not over when the weekend started, and Saturday’s race started with Aaron Thompson, who was top of the table, in second place on the grid behind Nathan Edwards, with Aaron’s Jam Sport team mate and title rival, Michael Higgs in third ahead of Carlito Miracco.

An exciting race saw Aaron take the win ahead of Michael with Carlito in third. Penalties were awarded to Carlito and Richard Crisp for exceeding track records, although Carlito’s penalty was later rescinded, leaving him in third place.

The result strengthened Aaron’s position at the top of the table, but he still needed the right result in Sunday’s final race of the season to guarantee the championship, and starting from pole position gave him the opportunity, with Michael and Carlito next on the grid ahead of Ronan Quinn in fourth.

All three drivers looked delighted on the podium, as did Julieann Bates who has done such a superb job as series co-ordinator for the Fiesta Juniors.

Fiesta Junior Championship, Brands Hatch, 2015Well done to Aaron and the rest of the drivers; I’m sure we will all be hearing much more about them as they move on to other series over the next few years. It has been a fantastic series, and I’m really pleased I started following it, and I am looking forward to next year. A big thank you too to Julieann and the team for making me feel so welcome too. If you get a chance, do look out for the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship. Fiesta Junior Championship, Brands Hatch, 2015
